OUR
PRACTICE
AZB’s microfinance practice is well established and actively advises leading microfinance institutions organised as not–for–profits, operating in some of the most challenging areas. Our clients include multilateral investors, social impact funds, development funds, banks, PE funds, social sector investment funds and sector specialist advisors.
Members of our team have served on government–instituted committees and have contributed to several pivotal legislative and regulatory reform efforts in the sector. Our work with Indian regulators, such as the Reserve Bank of India and the Securities Exchange Board of India, notably, our recommendations to the Malegam Committee, were responsible for easing access to MFIs to avail of external commercial borrowings.
WHAT
WE DO
Our diverse experience and market standing enables engagement in the entire lifecycle of an MFI, from its inception through growth, to its IPO listing and transitioning to a bank.
Specifically, our team offers advice on regulatory issues, structuring products and investments and developing standardised documentation and systems. It also helps create appropriate structures for MFIs to raise funds and scale up. Our expertise includes securitization and sale of the asset portfolio of MFIs, equity/ debt fund raising and market access, and advising banks and financial institutions on lending to MFIs.
