Three Newly Enacted Criminal Laws Have Come into Effect from July 1, 2024

The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (replacing the Indian Penal Code, 1860), the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 (replacing the Indian Evidence Act, 1872) and the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (replacing the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973) have now come into force with effect from July 1, 2024, except provisions relating to Section 106(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (Causing death by rash and negligent driving of vehicle and escaping).
