The Government of Telangana by way of Notification dated May 15, 2023, has extended the permission that was previously granted to shops and establishments under the Telangana Shops and Establishments Act, 1988, to remain open for 365 days for a further period of 3 years with effect from June 16, 2022, subject to certain conditions, namely: (i) employees to work for eight hours per day and forty-eight hours per week and any overtime payment made to the employees to be maintained in the wage register; (ii) employees be allowed a weekly holiday; (iii) the working hours of the shop will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.; (iv) appropriate transportation arrangements to be arranged for women employees who are required to work beyond 8:30 p.m.; (v) appointment letters to be provided to all the employees; (vi) compliance with welfare and social security provisions under relevant labour laws; and (vii) maintenance of a visit book at each establishment.

In case employees are found to be working on a holiday or after normal duty hours without payment of overtime, this exemption granted to the establishments will be cancelled.
