The National Investment and Infrastructure Fund’s (‘NIIF’) Green Frontier Initiative (‘Initiative’) recently released a report titled ‘India’s Green Future – Financing, Policy and Taxonomy’ (‘Report’) which aims to engage with policymakers, regulators, investors, and entrepreneurs on green finance issues.
Our Co-Founder and Senior Partner, Mr. Bahram Vakil and Partner, Ms. Anuja Tiwari were part of the Working Group on Green Finance Taxonomy (‘Working Group’) launched by the Initiative and contributed to the Report by sharing their expert views and recommendations on various aspects of green taxonomy, including the following:
i. environmental, social and governance (‘ESG’) related disclosure requirements under Indian laws and whether such requirements should be made mandatory;
ii. the concept of “Green Washing”;
iii. the definition of “Green” for the purposes of “Green Economy” and “Green Taxonomy”; and
iv. legal insight into the Indian and international green energy and renewables sectors along with the regulatory framework governing them.
The Report and NIIF’s involvement of various stakeholders through the Working Group, seeks to further its overall vision of ESG integration as a crucial factor for determining long term returns.
