With the spike in COVID-19 cases in the state, the Government of Karnataka vide an order dated July 13, 2020 (Karnataka Order) has announced a complete lockdown of the city of Bengaluru (which comprises the Bengaluru Urban District, the Bengaluru Rural District and the area under the jurisdiction of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike), for a period of 7 days. The lockdown will be effective from July 14, 2020 8:00 PM to July 22, 2020 5:00 AM.
During the lockdown, certain activities or establishments that are situated outside the containment zones in Bengaluru are permitted to operate in accordance with the National Directives. The Government of Karnataka has implemented the national directives issued under the Unlock II guidelines and have additionally imposed a fine for not wearing face covers/masks in public areas. Only essential activities are allowed in containment zones and authorities may further prohibit other activities, if deemed necessary. Further, the Karnataka Order provides that employers are to continue ensuring, on a best effort basis, that employees who have compatible mobile phones install and use the Aarogya Setu application.
