Frequency of Reporting of Credit Information by Credit Institutions to CIC

RBI has directed credit institutions (‘CIs’) and credit information companies (‘CICs’) to update the credit information collected/maintained by them on a fortnightly basis or at such shorter intervals as mutually agreed upon between the CI and the CIC, as opposed to the requirement under the extant regulations to update the credit information on a monthly basis. CIs are required to submit the credit information to CICs within seven calendar days of the relevant reporting fortnight.

Moreover, CICs were earlier required to ingest credit information data received from the CIs, within seven calendar days of receipt from CIs. RBI has reduced this timeline to five calendar days. RBI has also encouraged CIs and CICs to adopt these instructions expeditiously, which are effective from January 1, 2025.
