Employment of Women in Night Shift of Factories in Andhra Pradesh & Telangana

By way of a Circular dated October 26, 2022, the Office of the Director of Factories, Government of Andhra Pradesh has issued a clarification to allow women employees to be employed in the factories in the night shift between 7 pm and 6 am. This relaxation is subject to satisfaction of certain prescribed health and safety measures.

By way of a Notification dated October 13, 2022, the Labour, Employment, Training & Factories Department of Telangana has exempted all establishments in Telangana from the provisions of Section 23 of the Telangana Shops and Establishments Act, 1988, which prohibits women employees to work in any establishment before 6 am and after 8:30 pm. This relaxation is subject to satisfaction of certain prescribed conditions.

Some of the conditions include obtaining prior written consent of such women employees, pick-up and drop off facilities, certain security and safety measures, etc.
