Employee’s Compensation (Amendment) Act, 2017

The Employee’s Compensation Act, 1923 has been amended with effect from May 15, 2017. Some of the key amendments introduced are:i.  Every eligible employer should inform workmen, at the time of employment, of compensation rights under the statute in writing and through electronic means.ii.  Penalties for contravention have been increased from Rs. 5,000 (approx. US$ 77) to a minimum of Rs. 50,000 (approx. US$ 775), which may extend to Rs. 100,000 (approx. US$ 1,550).
