DoT Simplifies Approval Processes for Telecom Licenses and Wireless Equipment

DoT has streamlined the processes for issuing Experimental Licenses (Radiating Category), Demonstration Licenses, and Equipment Type Approvals (‘ETA’). Applications for experimental licenses and demonstration licenses that do not require interministerial consultation will be considered granted after 30 days and 15 days, respectively. If additional consultation is needed for: (i) Experimental Licenses (Radiating Category), a provisional license will be granted after 60 days, and it will become a regular license after 90 days, provided no adverse remarks are received; and (ii) for Demonstration Licenses, an application will be considered granted after 45 days. Further all ETAs for license-exempt wireless devices henceforth will be provided by submitting a self-declaration on the Saral Sanchar portal. However, ETA holders are required to obtain the necessary clearances before importing equipment into India.
